Lovejoy ISD Transfer Options: Enrolling Your Child in a Lovejoy ISD School Even If You Don’t Live in The District
In 2013, the Collin County district of Lovejoy ISD started a transfer student option, to help address the concern that many of the surrounding districts wished they could send their children to Lovejoy ISD but were perhaps only a few blocks on the other side of the Lovejoy ISD’s mapped boundary. For example, Tiffany and Hunter Sexauer, who live in the beautiful, rural area of Lucas, are willing to spend $8,000 per year to send their daughter, Anicah, to kindergarten in Lovejoy ISD.
Lovejoy ISD offers the Transfer Option with a number of eligibility criteria, including a mandatory 95% attendance record and satisfactory academic performance, but there are still many parents who appreciate having this option available to them.
There are so many beautiful neighborhoods in Collin County that for those who choose to move forward with Lovejoy ISD’s transfer option, it makes sense for them to be able to still enjoy the home they love. Unfortunately, however, this transfer option isn’t going to be available forever. According to Superintendent Ted Moore, the current availability is part of a stop-gap measure to help compensate for recent tax cuts that has left Lovejoy ISD with $2.5 million to recoup. The new campus, Willow Springs Middle School, is the reason why Lovejoy ISD has a few extra spots they are willing to open up to children from neighboring districts, but according to Moore, it’s not a long-term solution to those looking to enroll their children in Lovejoy ISD:
“Because you build your facilities based on what your demographer tells you how many kids you’re going to have, and so for us, that’s going to be true,” Moore says. “Really, over the next 8 plus years, we’ll have to get out of the transfer business because our residents will be filling all of the seats (keranews.org).”
